Director Of Therapeutic Recreation

How to make an impact:

  • In this role, you will oversee the daily operation of programming/clinical duties and intermediate situations on a regular and ongoing basis. 


  • Access all pertinent resident records for assessment and program purposes


  • Coordinate all department program services.


  • Maintain effective communication and working relations with all staff/departments, residents, families and the public.


  • Prepares yearly budget for the Therapeutic Recreation Department to include supplies, salaries, worker’s compensation etc. and work closely with the Fiscal Department to maintain the ongoing budget


  • Prepare and keep all necessary records including:
    • Care plan documentation, MDS/RAPs, Activity/TR Assessments, Individual Care Plans, Interventions and Progress Notes, Quarterly Review, Reassessments.


  • Daily attendance records, one-to one program documentation, and discharge summaries.


  • Weekly calendars prepared in advance based on resident input, assessment and interest.


  • Quality assessments and assurance records.


  • Activity/TR Department policy and procedures and other records deemed necessary in the performance of the job.


  • Maintain compliance with local, state, federal and facility regulations and policies concerning the Activity/TR program and resident rights.


  •  Supervise assistants and volunteers.


  •  Secure entertainment, program leaders, materials, equipment, and transportation well in advance of schedule dates.


  • Participate in the in-service training program in the facility.


  •  Provide adaptive Activity/TR programs, technique, equipment, and material as related to each resident’s specific needs.


  •  Attend Nursing Home Group, educational workshop or programs, which relate to Activity/TR programming maintaining the required professional certification.


  •  Ensure that all residents are involved in activities on a daily basis.


  • Maintain a safe Activity/TR environment through procurement, preventative maintenance, cleaning, and storage of supplies and equipment.


  • Coordinate facility sponsored community trips and outings.


  • Schedule Jewish related programs for the population of the Joseph L. Morse Geriatric Center

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Licensed C.R.T.S. Preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in a long term health care setting, or mental health setting; direct care of seniors who have all types of dementia.
  • Bachelors Degree also required.
