ART THERAPIST (AT)

Utilize art media and creative process to assist patients/families in coping with end-of-life issues and enhance quality of life.

 

How to make an impact:

  • Provide direct service to hospice patients/families in homes and alternative homes.
  • Conduct assessments and provide interventions that meet individual needs.
  • Consult with referring team and expressive therapists to assess needs and prioritize referrals.
  • Maintain and complete required charting, records, and reports.
  • Participate in team conferences as appropriate.
  • Continual program development and evaluation of art therapy services.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and volunteers and continue to educate staff and volunteers about art therapy.
  • Provide bereavement follow-up to family members when appropriate.
  • Assist with facilitating support groups upon request.
  • Assess art therapy supply needs, order and inventory supplies, assess and integrate donated supplies. General maintenance of art supplies, art equipment, and art therapy studio.
  • Be flexible in meeting patient/family needs that require evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for counseling services for weekends and holidays.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct in-service programs and assist with outside public relations activities as requested.
  • Supervise art therapy internship program and art therapy interns.
  • Train and supervise art volunteers.
  • Participate in agency committees as requested.

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Proficient in the use of a wide variety of art media and techniques to assist patient/ family with pain, discomfort, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, depression, loss of speech or language barrier, difficulty expressing feelings, lack of support, isolation, anticipatory grief, multiple losses, needs for spiritual expression, need for meaningful activity or visual/motor stimulation.
  • Ability to create to create a safe environment.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the differences between adult’s and children’s reaction to grief and life-threatening situations.
  • Experience with terminally ill preferred; one-to-two years’ experience in hospice helpful.
  • Must be able to drive, have a valid driver License, car available, and insurance coverage.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move 30-40 pounds of art supplies/equipment.
