Benefits, Pension, & Workers' Compensation Manager

 

The Benefits, Pension, & Wokers' Compensation Manager designs, plans, and implements corporate benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Responsible for reviewing programs, suggesting modifications, and ensuring achievement of competitive market position and other goals identified by the organization. Responsible for ensuring programs meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and are cost effective. Ensures the benefits programs enhance the organization's ability to recruit and retain employees. This role is also responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing a company's workers' compensation program. Implements all matters of the program, including claim investigations, settlements, and litigation. Establishes standards and procedures for all matters relating to workers' compensation. Responsible for finding an insurance provider that meets organizational goals of employee coverage and cost effectiveness

 

How to make an impact:

 

  • Responsible for overall benefits strategy and programs, including plan design, vendor selection/management, communication, and compliance.
  • Analyzes and provides recommendations on the organization's current benefits, as well as recommends new programs, to ensure a balance between control of costs, compliance, and the company’s employer of choice philosophy.
  • Performs analysis of benefits plans, including modeling plan scenarios and fiscal impact of the plans.
  • Develops and performs analysis of key benefit metrics.
  • Works with outside vendors to customize and implement systems for the administration of various benefits programs. Serves as the primary liaison for benefit partners such as onsite clinic.
  • Identifies opportunities and implements plans for benefits education and communication, including new hire communication, open enrollment, and other initiatives
  • Oversees the Company’s leave of absence programs and vendor/partners.
  • Plays a key role in setting short- and long-term benefit goals and strategies
  • Assists in the ongoing effort to determine and maintain current benefit trends, pricing and legislative requirements, and programs
  • Promptly and thoroughly investigates newly reported work injuries to determine compensability
  • Receives and documents necessary information regarding each reported injury
  • Contacts injured employees immediately upon notification of injury to explain workers’ compensation, as well as, the roles of the Third Party Administrator and Injury Counselor
  • Monitors each reported injury and assist the injured worker to ensure they are receiving the appropriate medical care
  • Calculates statistics and maintain OSHA logs
  • Contacts physicians before and after visits to obtain work restrictions, explain the proactive transitional work program and determine the employee’s condition/treatment plan
  • Identifies cases requiring medical management, surveillance or early intervention
  • Responsible for claims administration and audit reports preparation
  • Acts as a liaison between management, claims adjusters, employees, insurance carriers, medical personnel and attorneys
  • Coordinates the daily operation of the MorseLife Health System safety department
  • Maintains records of all community incident reports, daily safety officer logs and liability litigation matters
  • Provides an ongoing-training program for departmental personnel. Documents and maintains all training records
  • Serves as a liaison for the community with the police department, fire department and other governmental agencies
  • Responsible for leading and investigating resident claims such as loss and theft preferred knowledge of workers compensation investigation
  • Responsible for creating and managing the employee safety Incentive Programs
  • Notifies COBRA eligible employees on their COBRA eligibility within 1 week of termination being processed through payroll.
  • Manages record keeping and maintenance for FMLA. Notifies employees on FMLA and processes benefits deductions as needed.

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring to the table:

 

  • Knowledgeable regarding workers’ compensation claims processes
  • Well-versed in Federal and State workers’ compensation laws and regulations
  • Strong administrative support background with exceptional time management skills
  • Able to continuously prioritize a large caseload and meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Knowledgeable regarding the practices and procedures of Third Party Administrators
  • Workers’ Compensation Claims Administration Certification preferred
  • Understanding of treatment protocol for initial Workers’ Compensation injuries
  • Knowledgeable regarding First Aid onsite and First Aid as assigned by the clinic
  • Familiarity with medical and insurance terminology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to effectively communicate with a diverse group of contacts including physicians, injured workers, internal managers, employee family members, attorneys, claims adjusters and private investigators
  • Prior experience in the senior living industry is a plus
  • Between 3-5 years of work experience in the field of benefits is required.
  • Certification/License – Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) is a plus.
