Risk Manager

Manages and mitigates actual and potential risks in the skilled and assisted living facilities. Develops, maintains and monitors risk assessment plans. Reports to the Agency for Health Care Administration and the Risk Manager on Record.

 

How to make an impact:

  • Develops and leads the RM/QA meeting and risk reporting.
  • Develops risk assessment plans and establishes quality assurance performance improvement projects with a risk focus.
  • Monitors the viability and effectiveness of risk assessment plans and adjusts as needed.
  • Educates staff on areas pertaining to risk.
  • Educates residents, patients, families and residents representatives (RR) regarding risk; i.e. falls, pressure ulcer development and disease progression.
  • Develops educational handouts for residents, patients, families and resident representatives.
  • Incident/Accident reporting:
    • Collects and logs all resident/patient incidents.
    • Reviews all incident reports.
    • Takes the lead in the investigation of all critical events (events resulting in an injury or major injury as defined in the RAI manual).
    • Reviews the event follow-up documentation in the medical record.
    • Directs the root cause analysis of events when appropriate.
    • Assists in determining appropriate interventions and assures interventions are on Care Plan and CNA’s plan of care.
    • Determines patterns, trends of residents, patient accidents and incidents.
    • Tracks the number and types of indecent/accident occurrences, while reporting patterns and trends to the Nurse Mangers, Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Responsible for the reporting of all “adverse events” to the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) after consultation with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Sr. Vice President of Health Center Operations.
  • Participate in daily (weekday) standup meeting.
  • Work with interdisciplinary team to design and promote fall management programs, pressure ulcer prevention, reduction of UTIs and reduction of liability.
  • Represents MorseLife Health System in mediation.
  • Interfaces with our liability carrier and MorseLife attorneys regarding clinical risk issues.
  • Working knowledge of all Federal and State regulations regarding skilled and assisted living facilities.
  • Orientation and annual State of Florida risk management education.
  • Conduct in-services with staff regarding risk.
  • Log, track and trend medical errors and develop appropriate reduction programs.
  • Available Monday-Friday with occasional afterhours and weekends as needed or as assigned.
  • Reduction of clinical liability cases by 50%.
  • Achieve 80 points or above in the following Quality Measure as reported on the CMS 5-Star ranking: (1) Falls with Major Injury (2) New or Worsening Pressure Ulcers.
  • Achieve overall Customer Satisfaction scores of 85% or greater.
  • 100% Regulatory Compliance.
  • Complete additional tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring to the table:

    • Licensed as a Healthcare Risk Manager
    • Licensed RN with 1-2 years of healthcare risk management in a SNF/ALF preferred
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills with an aptitude for public speaking
    • Compassionate
    • Inquisitive with an investigative mind set
